In October 2025, we were contacted by a prominent member of the wolfdog rescue community about three senior animals who needed placement.
Over the years this individual (and her family) had saved many lives by assisting in networking, fostering, and even becoming a full-time owner to animals that came through Freedom Song Wolfdog Rescue’s professional network. In fact, she helped facilitate placement for several rescues who have come to call Wild Spirit home over the years including Kiara, Kovu, Atlas, and Celeste!
Unfortunately, she and her family fell on hard times, making it difficult to continue offering a forever home to the three wolfdogs actively in their care. They reached out to fellow owners, rescuers, and sanctuaries attempting to find placement for Picasso, Summer, and Yuma, but no on was able to take them in, leaving the family’s future in limbo.
Due to the urgency of the situation, Wild Spirit stepped in and offered placement (even if just long enough for the family to get back on their feet) and we hit the road to Oklahoma as quickly as we could. Our rescue van made the trip a breeze and we had the 3 new additions to our family en-route back to New Mexico in no time!
Since arriving, the three seniors have settled in and started to make friends already. Summer is the most social of the group and has discovered that our Caretakers are a non-stop source for pets. Picasso has been play bowing and offering happy “awoooo’s” to us all, whereas Yuma has been on the shier side, but has started approaching for treats and sniffs!
We are overjoyed to have them as part of our pack and equally happy to help a rescuer in need.
