Dear Howling Supporters,

During this unprecedented time in our modern history, the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary Team sends all of our love and well wishes for your health and safety. The coronavirus has affected so many, and the world is unsettled, trembling with anxiety and anticipation. This reaction is not without merit, of course, as viruses can be serious threats, and COVID-19 is no different.

I am reaching out today to let all of our dear supporters and followers know that the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary Team is well, and we are working diligently to assure the continued quality care of our rescues. While we remain closed to the public, suspending tours and on-site activities, our Animal Care Team tends to the animals daily. Luckily, most of us, including myself, live on-site, so we can adhere to the social distancing in an effort to do our part to keep others and ourselves safe all the while providing for our rescues.

Furthermore, thanks to the generous support of donors and our partnerships with Community Pantry and Roadrunner Food Bank, our Wolf Kitchen is well-stocked with food supplies for the animals. In this way, we are fortunate to be able to continue to provide the high-quality, species-specific Carnivore Diet to our wild canids—they send their howls of thanks!

Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary has been blessed even further by the willingness of our remote veterinarian, Dr. Gonzales, to venture out to the sanctuary to address emergencies. The wonderful team at TLC Veterinary Hospital in Albuquerque has also been amazing during this time of crisis. Just yesterday, they kept a medical appointment for our senior New Guinea singing dog, Foxy, who had been showing signs of possible infection and/or the lodgment of a foreign body in her nasal cavity. The Wild Spirit Family is truly grateful to have relationships with such awesome vet care providers!

Pending the decision by Gov. Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, whether to maintain the closure requirement of nonessential public businesses and organizations or to cease the ban, Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary intends to re-open on April 11th if the go ahead is given. Please refer to our website for all applicable updates to our hours of operation.

In the event Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary will have to remain closed longer, the team fully intends to pursue grants and funds being made available to nonprofits in response to the financial hardships being caused by coronavirus. As many of our supporters and followers know, the sanctuary operates almost solely through the generosity of those who donate, sponsor an animal, participate on a tour, and/or purchase merchandise from the Gift Shop. Without this revenue, we will direct all of our energy towards obtaining relief funds to continue our care of the rescues.

Finally, I am happy to announce that the Animal Care Team intends to host Live Feeds on our social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, over the next couple of weeks for those in quarantine to be able to see our rescues remotely. Stay tuned for Live Feed announcements, which will be shared on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Once more, on behalf of everyone and all our rescues at Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary, thank you so much for your love and support during this difficult time. We howl well wishes for health and safety to each and every one of you!

Sincerely,

Kendra Kain-Woods

I wish I could support you more, but I have been laid off from my job for at least the next 3 months. I am a sponsor of Bear and will continue to do so when my sponsorship re news in May. Love and blessings to you all.

This is certainly a challenging and stressful time for many folks. I’m sorry to read that you have been affected this year, too. Many well wishes to you from the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary Team. We, and especially Bear, are super grateful for all the support you do offer. Reading and sharing our posts, following us on social media, and getting the word out there about us is just as precious and valuable as a donation or sponsorship. So, thank you, Joanna! <3 Take care of yourself.
