BIO ~ River is a female red/gray fox. She came to live at Wild Spirit in August of 2018 when she was only a few months old.
PERSONALITY ~ River is much braver than her brother, despite her smaller size. She has a ton of energy and isn’t afraid to express her opinions! She is more relaxed in front of people and enjoys watching all of the activity at WSWS. She is very attached to her brother, Rumi, and often will stack herself right on top of him.
RELATIONSHIP ~ River lives with her brother, Rumi. We couldn’t be happier to be able to keep these deserving rescues together.
LIKES ~ River likes Apples, her donated fur beds from Born Free, and bird watching.
DISlIKES ~ River dislikes waiting for food and when her caretaker moves her beds around.
FUN FACTS ~ River had one red fox parent and one grey fox parent.
Foxes have a wide range of vocalizations and she is not afraid to use each one!.
WISH LIST ~ River would love a donation to buy her some safe, heavy duty dog or cat toys. Thank you so much for supporting our deserving girl.

RIVER’S HISTORY ~ Our beautiful River is a mix of both red fox and gray fox. She comes from a long line of captive-bred foxes who originally came from fur farms. River’s parents were bred at an exotic animal breeder in Virginia. She and her three siblings were meant to be sold into the pet industry.
Virginia passed a law prohibiting the ownership of red/grey foxes as pets. That was good news for future foxes, but that meant these fox kits needed sanctuary! With nowhere to go, River and her siblings were placed in foster care in Ohio while caring folks looked for places for them to live. We were thrilled to give this beautiful girl and her handsome brother Rumi a safe and loving forever home.
River bonded with the caring folks who helped care for her when she needed it. She is still very wild at heart, but we hope she soon learns to trust us and fully enjoy all the perks of sanctuary life!
